Licensing Assistant-Tech Transfer and Commercialization
About This Role
The Licensing Assistant - Tech Transfer and Commercialization plays a crucial role in the Technology Transfer Office by facilitating the commercialization of intellectual property (IP) developed through research and innovation. The incumbent is responsible for providing support for the advancement of university technologies into the commercial marketplace by evaluating inventions and marketing technologies to potential licensees, supporting efforts in the formation of start-up companies and/or other commercial mechanisms. This role engages in the licensing process, fosters industry partnerships, and supports commercialization efforts to maximize the impact and value of the university’s technological innovations.
Duties Summary:

Assess new inventions for patentability and commercial potential.

Conduct market and competitive research for technology applications.

Collaborate with inventors to understand innovations and build relationships.

Create marketing materials and website content to promote technologies.

Represent KSURF at outreach events and industry meetings.

Prepare and manage IP-related reports and licensing data.

Support education and outreach on IP and commercialization processes.

What You'll Need to Succeed
Minimum Qualifications:
- Requires a bachelor's degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree or relevant certification (e.g., MBA, JD, CLP) preferred.
- At least one year of relevant experience in job responsibilities related to technology transfer, licensing, or commercialization.
- Basic understanding of intellectual property laws, licensing practices, and commercialization strategies.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to build and maintain professional relationships with industry partners and stakeholders.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to conduct market research and competitive analysis.
- Proficiency in using technology transfer and contract management software.
- Demonstrated success contributing to a collaborative and dynamic work environment.
