HR & Accounting Specialist

About This Role

The College of Health and Human Sciences (HHS) is seeking an HR & Accounting Specialist to join their team in the Dean’s Office. This position will support HHS through handling day-to-day HR functions ad assigned accounting duties. Specifically, the HR & Accounting Specialist will handle onboarding, payroll, personnel file management, appointment paperwork, payment vouchers, and account reconciliations. This position reports to the HR Manager.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare hourly student and graduate assistantship appointment paperwork for all departments within HHS
  • Assist the HR team with gathering graduate assistantship information each semester
  • Manage position data in HRIS to include updating supervisors, appointment end dates, pay rate changes, etc.
  • Input leave in HRIS for exempt faculty and staff
  • Answer payroll/time and leave-related questions for all HHS employees (students, grads, faculty, and staff) in assigned departments
  • Notify supervisors and employees of any payroll-related issues or delays, initiating supplemental paychecks and pay corrections when needed
  • Post and process business transactions, ensuring all are recorded in QuickBooks
  • Research accounting discrepancies and perform reconciliations
  • Prepare and submit payment vouchers/disbursements
  • Maintain personnel and accounting files
  • Other duties as assigned

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma
  • Two years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business administration, human resources, human resources management, or related field
  • Experience with HRIS
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • General understanding of accounting practices
  • Experience with QuickBooks
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong customer service mindset
  • Ability to work with a variety of people
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and be a self-starter

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship

Anticipated Hiring Pay Range
