About This Role
The HVAC Technician plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, comfortable, and well-functioning living, learning, and working environment for Kansas State University students, residents, faculty, staff, and guests. This position works as part of a skilled team responsible for servicing, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing air conditioning and refrigeration systems for Housing and Dining Services.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Diagnose and repair commercial refrigeration and cooling equipment, including walk-in freezers, upright and chest refrigerators, ice machines, milk and ice cream machines, and water coolers.
• Perform preventive maintenance on complex systems such as chillers, cooling towers, air handlers, vacuum pumps, and related controls within large residence hall complexes.
• Install, service, and maintain HVAC, air conditioning, heat pump, and energy management systems across residence halls and foodservice facilities.
• Service electrical and plumbing components associated with refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
• Maintain accurate records, organize tools, and actively contribute as an engaged and productive team member.

What You'll Need to Succeed
Minimum Qualifications:
- Requires two years of relevant experience. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by a hiring manager.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of tools, equipment and materials used in trade.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- 4 years experience at the journeyman level
- Ability to provide a high level of customer service.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Preferred licenses / registrations / certifications:
- EPA Universal refrigerant certificate upon employment.
- Prefer Journeyman Mechanical License
- Valid drivers license
