About This Role
The Department of Entomology invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor with a split appointment in teaching and youth program development (85%) and research (15%). This position is a critical component of the department’s commitment to providing high-quality, student-focused educational experiences in entomology. Our institution is seeking a passionate, knowledgeable, and engaging educator who can inspire students through dynamic instruction, applied learning experiences, and innovative research opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will have primary responsibility for teaching, curriculum development, and applied student engagement, with duties distributed as follows:
1. Teaching and Curriculum Development (75%)
• Teach core departmental courses, including the General Entomology lecture and laboratory, Animal Health (Veterinary/Medical Entomology) laboratory, and Insect and Arthropod Biology.
• Develop and teach the department’s online course in Economic Entomology, ensuring high-quality, engaging content that addresses global and domestic insect issues.
• Lead the integration of high-impact practices across the curriculum, specifically supporting and developing the undergraduate capstone curriculum and promoting applied learning experiences (e.g., internships, research projects).
• Maintain a strong "student-first mentality" to elevate the quality of undergraduate and graduate programs and educational experiences.
2. Student and Youth Program Development (10%)
• Coordinate and mentor students in applied learning experiences and professional development activities.
• Develop, maintain, and deliver educational resources and programming to support FFA and 4-H youth entomology and related science programs.
• Actively participate in departmental efforts to recruit and retain high-quality students.
3. Research (15%)
• Develop and lead meaningful undergraduate research experiences and capstone projects.
• Mentor and advise students enrolled in the accelerated MS degree program.
• Advance the discovery of new knowledge in entomology through independent and collaborative research, participation in professional societies, and dissemination of findings to scientific and stakeholder communities.

What You'll Need to Succeed
Minimum Qualifications:
- An earned Ph.D. in Entomology or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated expertise and ability to teach General Entomology and Economic/Applied Entomology.
- Evidence of a strong student-first mentality and commitment to effective teaching, mentorship, and applied learning.
- Experience with or ability to develop and deliver high-quality online learning content.
The degree requirement is necessary for accreditation purposes and to ensure candidates possess the specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities that can only be attained through a formal educational program at this level.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Teaching experience at the college or university level, particularly in laboratory and online settings.
- Proven experience in instructional design and the application of best practices in teaching and curriculum development.
- Broad foundation of entomological knowledge with demonstrated ability to learn new material.
- Experience in developing resources or programming for youth organizations such as FFA or 4-H.
