Position Summary
The Citadel’s Zucker Family School of Education invites applications for a tenure-track Associate Professor of Education position specializing in STEM education, beginning August 2025.
Applicants must be prepared to support teacher candidates preparing to teach new science standards (similar to NGSS) and/or mathematics standards (similar to Common Core) in South Carolina. We seek candidates with a commitment to working collaboratively with faculty and staff to prepare teacher candidates to primarily teach STEM and STEM-related content to students from diverse backgrounds. Candidates contributing to the climate of diversity, equity and inclusivity that align with our school’s mission are encouraged to identify their experiences in their cover letter.
The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and graduate teacher preparation programs. Responsibilities may include teaching 6-12 general teaching methods, content methods, foundations of American education, or other education courses, as well as collaborating with public school partners for practicum and student teacher supervision. There is an opportunity to collaborate with the STEM Center of Excellence in outreach and research. Candidates must demonstrate a record of, or potential for, scholarly activity, including professional publications and presentations. Additional responsibilities include student mentorship through advising and collaborative undergraduate research and contributions to the life of the department, university, and profession.
Minimum Required Education and Experience
- An earned doctorate from an accredited university in teacher education, curriculum and instruction, science education, mathematics education, or related field
- Demonstrated success as a 6-12 teacher and/or 6-12 certified professional
- Ability to use and model technology as an instructional tool
- Ability to collaborate with local P-12 school districts
- Commitment to diversity and preparing professional educators to work in diverse school environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Teaching skills that employ a variety of instructional strategies in both face-to-face and online environments.
- At least 3 years of experience teaching in a public school
