Job Responsibilities:
The Citadel, The Military College is seeking an internal applicant for the Director of Institutional Research. This role manages the Office of Institutional Research and provides leadership and expertise to the campus community in areas concerning the enhancement of institutional effectiveness, expansion of data-driven decision making, and integration of data into strategic planning, assessment, and accreditation processes. This role will is also responsible for the following:
- Represents The Citadel to a wide variety of internal and external constituents to include various state-wide committees (e.g. CHE Advisory Committee on the Information Resources) and provides advice and leadership to internal stakeholder groups (e.g. Student Team and Data Governance).
- Directs and manages the functions of institutional research, data collection, compilation, analysis, and reporting/publication as requested by a wide variety of internal and external constituencies (e.g. AACSB, ABET, CAEP, SACS, CHE, Princeton Review, VSA, US News and World Report, CHEMIS, IPEDS, BOV Meetings, etc.)
- Supervises staff in multiple facets of data management, including preparation, dissemination, collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Oversees the design, compilation, analysis, and reporting of survey instruments, including paper and web-based instruments.
- Analyzes the impact of current reporting methods and effectiveness of current reports for advancing institutional effectiveness and meeting senior executive decision-making needs.
- Designs and implements new strategies or reports based on these analyses to maintain current reporting or streamline reporting.
- Reviews and assists academic and administrative departments of the College in proposed research designs, survey instruments and methods of collecting and reporting information.
- Monitors the development, refinement, and maintenance of data integrity. Advises administrative and academic departments of the College in maintaining data integrity.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in educational research, statistics, data science or related field. Minimum of five years of experience working within an Institutional Research or equivalent office in a college or university.
- Knowledge of institutional research techniques and management. Knowledge of state and federally mandated reporting requirements. Knowledgeable in descriptive and inferential statistical research methods, social science research methods, basic survey design techniques, data mining and database management, and familiarity with procedures of statistical analysis and report writing, preferably in higher education.
- Experience with data analysis tools and statistical software (e.g., SPSS, SAS). Knowledge of enterprise-level relational databases (e.g., Banner), data warehouse concepts/systems, and data extraction using Argos and SQL.
- Ability to compile, analyze, and present statistical and research data and present information effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to extract data from a variety of sources and understand, manage, interpret and ensure the quality of complex datasets.
- Strong project management and communication skills.
- Previous experience supervising other employees.
