Job Responsibilities:
The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina is seeking a Band Director to serve as Band Company TAC. This role will teach, advise and coach Cadets in the unit in character development, leader training, and military discipline providing continuous assessment and training in the standards of appearance and conduct of these cadets and taking disciplinary action within prescribed procedures, policies and regulations.
Performs professional duties as Director of Music for The Citadel. Manages the college music program, including the training of the marching band for ceremonies and reviews, the pep band, both on and off campus. Serves as the Company TAC for Band Company. Manages the budget for The Citadel Regimental Band and Pipes. Manages the inventory of musical instruments, equipment, and the music library. Supervises the activities of the Director of The Citadel Pipe Band.
- Manage, plan for and implement a college music program consisting of 110-120 students. Teach and train the marching band for military ceremonies and reviews. Write and teach pre-game and half-time entertainment activities for presentation both on and off campus. Teaches and trains Pep Band for the basketball season.
- Manage the operational budget of The Citadel Regimental Band and Pipes. Maintains files on all correspondence incidental to the operation of The Citadel Band.
- Screen enrollment applications and recruit potential band members. Coordinate with Admissions and Financial Aid to develop and manage the Band scholarship Fund.
- Manage, receive, maintain and issue an inventory of musical instruments and equipment. Purchase, file, issue and maintain a music library consisting of over 3000 volumes.
- Select, write and /or arrange special musical literature as required.
- Supervise, evaluate, and assist the Director Citadel Pipe Band. Evaluate performances of The Citadel Pipe Band.
- Serve as Band Company TAC. Teach, advise and coach Cadets in the unit in character development, leader training, and military discipline providing continuous assessment and training in the standards of appearance and conduct of these cadets and taking disciplinary action within prescribed procedures, policies and regulations.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Music. Be a graduate of the Armed Forces School of Music Advanced Course or equivalent, and demonstrate two years experience of leading a Military Band (Active or reserve).
Extensive knowledge of how military bands operate as well as other musical operations and development. Must possess positive counseling and mentoring skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's preferred, plus 10 years experience preferred.
