Tenure-track Assistant Professor in Nursing
The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Swain Department of Nursing (SDN), beginning Fall 2026. Located in historic Charleston, South Carolina, The Citadel is a fully accredited, public, comprehensive, coeducational institution serving approximately 2,400 undergraduate students in the South Carolina Corps of Cadets and 1,200 students in The Citadel Graduate College, which offers evening and online undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs. For the past fifteen years, U.S. News & World Report has ranked The Citadel as the top public college in the South among master’s-granting institutions, and for the past two years, as the top overall regional university in the South.
One of seven departments in the Swain Family School of Science and Mathematics, the SDN offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The BSN is delivered in two face-to-face formats: a day program for the South Carolina Corps of Cadets and an evening degree-completion program. Established in 2017, the program emphasizes small class sizes that promote individualized instruction and close faculty–student interaction. Nursing faculty are primarily responsible for classroom and clinical instruction and are also expected to engage in scholarly activity and service. The Citadel supports faculty scholarship and professional development, with internal funding available for research, development, and travel.
The primary teaching responsibility for this position is Behavioral Health Nursing; additional teaching assignments may include other courses required for baccalaureate-prepared nurses. The Assistant Professor role includes expectations for teaching, scholarship, and service. The position is a full-time, nine-month appointment with competitive salary and fringe benefits.
