Job Responsibilities:

The Head Wrestling Coach will devote full-time attention and energies to the duties of Head Wrestling Coach.  The Head Wrestling Coach will be expected to: coach and teach wrestling skills; create and implement effective practice plans; develop, teach and implement tactical match strategies; support, encourage and mentor student-athletes; collaborate with academic support staff to promote the academic excellence of student-athletes; supervise and mentor assistant coaches; collaborate with strength and conditioning coaches to develop sport-specific training plans; communicate and collaborate with sports medicine staff to ensure the health and safety of the student-athletes; seek professional development opportunities and stay up to date on best practices and safety guidelines for collegiate wrestling.

The Head Wrestling Coach must exhibit competency with all decision making and administrative reporting in accordance with running the Wrestling Program including: assistant coach personnel evaluations, fiscal responsibility and management of operating budget, coordination of team travel, development of competition schedule, and facility management and supervision.

The Citadel requires coaches to have a thorough knowledge of and compliance with all NCAA, SoCon and Institutional rules and regulations, requires timely completion of compliance paperwork and requires the head coach to ensure assistant coaches adhere to all compliance expectations.

The recruitment of student-athletes that possess the athletic, academic and leadership values consistent with The Citadel is an essential skill for this position. The Head Wrestling Coach is responsible for scholarship distribution, tracking, reporting and collaboration with the compliance office and sport supervisor in the recruitment of student-athletes.

As an ambassador for the program, the Head Wrestling Coach is expected to build strong relationships with alumni, community members and campus partners to actively support fundraising initiatives that elevate the wrestling program.

The Head Wrestling coach will support the letter and intent of the military mission and regulations of this institution, contribute to the campus community in a positive manner and encourage student-athletes to succeed in balancing the academic, military and athletic aspects of their education. Coaches are expected to represent the institution and the program in accordance with institutional values of Honor, Duty and Respect.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s Degree is required. Must be highly organized and have strong leadership and communication skills. The Citadel demands a thorough knowledge and adherence to institutional, Southern Conference and NCAA rules. Previous experience as a player and coach and a thorough knowledge of the skills required to teach Collegiate Wrestling are required.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Division I playing and coaching experience preferred.
