The Citadel is accepting applications for a Director of the Krause Center for Leadership Development (KCLD).
Position Description
The objective of the Director is to lead the KCLD and successfully execute its mission of creating and advancing cadet-focused leadership programs, ethics education, and community engagement to develop principled leaders. This position reports to the Dean of The Krause School for Leadership and Ethics and works with the vice presidents and deans of the college to accomplish the KCLD mission. In particular, the Director must work closely with the Commandant’s Department and the Department of Leadership Studies in the KSLE to present a seamless leadership development program for the cadets. The Director also advances The Citadel’s role in the community by supporting special collaborative projects that align with the college mission. A flexible work schedule is required to support travel, off-site programming, and after-hours activities, to include evenings and limited weekend work when required.

- Models the core values of The Citadel and characteristics of principled leadership, serving as an exceptional example for cadets and colleagues, alike.
- Must be a highly motivated, organized, outgoing, innovative, independent, and engaged leader with previous experience in a leadership role.
- Articulates a vision for leadership development and ethics education that is transformative for the college.
- Effectively promotes The Citadel and its leadership development program by speaking in campus, community, and public forums and writing in professional journals and publications.
- Demonstrates creative thinking in the development of new avenues for leadership education and community engagement.
- Has a keen understanding of community engagement and how to interact with various community partners and organizations.
- Enjoys interacting with emerging leaders and identifying ways to develop their talents for superior leadership.
- Skillfully manages logistics to the smallest detail while thinking at the strategic level.
- Manages finances to meet established budgets and strives to fundraise with the long-range goal of financial self-sustainability.
- Demonstrates expertise in employing technology, including social media.
Responsibilities
- Designs and delivers meaningful programming that engages cadets in leadership and ethics education and community engagement that advances the college mission.
- Chairs the Leadership Development Council for the college.
- Bears responsibility for successfully planning, executing, and evaluating the current programs and events, including the annual Leadership Day and the Annual Honor Conference.
- Accomplishes other job-related duties as assigned by the Dean of The Krause School for Leadership and Ethics.

- Military experience required.
- Master’s degree required.

- Experience with donor relations is beneficial.
- Familiarity with social media is essential.
Preferred Qualifications:
- prior military command experience preferred.
- Ph.D. preferred.
