Position Summary:
The Facilities Services Division of Design and Construction (DDC) at UAF is looking for an enthusiastic and innovative mechanical engineer who can contribute to the university's strategic goals. This position requires working with a team of professionals from diverse backgrounds and providing engineering services for the maintenance, operations, design, and construction divisions at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

The DDC team has overall responsibility for the planning and development of all UAF infrastructure and facilities to meet the educational and research needs of our vibrant university and community.
As a Facilities Services Mechanical Engineer, you will provide professional engineering services and technical expertise to support the maintenance, utilities, and design and construction areas of UAF's Facilities Services. Every day you will consult with other professionals to troubleshoot, research, and engineer/design facilities systems and controls that serve the Fairbanks and remote campuses. To thrive in this role, you must have substantial knowledge of mechanical and plumbing codes and regulations, as well as building heating, plumbing, refrigeration, and control systems within commercial, institutional, and educational buildings. You will need to be able to communicate technical information to engineering teams and contractors, but also to building users and laypersons. You will rely on use/knowledge of computer systems and applications including Windows operating system(s), AutoCAD, spreadsheets, word processors, and scheduling software. Working experience with project scheduling, estimating, and construction drawings and specifications are highly preferred.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) from an accredited engineering program. Professional registration in the State of Alaska as a Mechanical Engineer is preferred or qualified to obtain professional registration in Mechanical Engineering from the State of Alaska within the first 12-months of employment.
We are seeking a candidate with a minimum of five years of work experience in the field of mechanical engineering, or a combination of graduate-level education, engineering expertise, and experience in maintaining and operating mechanical systems in buildings. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in engineering mechanical building systems that are similar to those found in a university setting.
A valid driver's license and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria is required.
Position Details:
This position is located on the UAF campus in Fairbanks, Alaska. This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 83, based on education and experience.
