Position Summary:

The University of Alaska Fairbanks, Community and Technical College’s Learning Center is looking for experienced math tutors for our Math Lab. Math tutors play a vital role in helping students obtain academic excellence in a variety of courses that contain math related course work. Not only do our math tutors support university students in-person and online, but they also work with local high school students and the Fairbanks community. Positions are part time with a flexible schedule. Online tutoring is currently being offered as well.

The University of Alaska Fairbanks, Community and Technical College’s Learning Center is looking for experienced math tutors for our Math Lab. Math tutors play a vital role in helping students obtain academic excellence in a variety of courses that contain math related course work. Not only do our math tutors support university students in-person and online, but they also work with local high school students and the Fairbanks community. Positions are part time with a flexible schedule. Online tutoring is currently being offered as well.
The ideal candidate should have professional-level knowledge in their field, strong computer skills, and the ability to analyze and solve problems effectively. They must be organized, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines. Communication skills are essential for interacting with students and faculty, and proficiency in internet use and office software is required. Familiarity with online math platforms (e.g., ALEKS, WebAssign, MyMathLab) is important. They should excel in coaching algebra concepts, guiding students to resources, and adapting to different learning styles. Customer service skills, including working with diverse populations, are crucial. The candidate should be able to work independently and collaboratively in shared spaces, maintaining confidentiality and complying with FERPA guidelines.
Successful candidates will have 6 months to 3 years (or more) classroom or tutorial experience, or the equivalent.
Minimum Qualifications:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required, although a bachelor’s degree is preferred.
Position Details:
This is a part time position with flexible hours. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Temporary Salary Schedule, Grade 77, step 1.
