Position Summary:

The Alaska Satellite Facility (ASF) is searching for a talented and dedicated staff member to act as Ground Station Operator for the ASF antennas. As an ASF Ground Station Operator, the candidate will be expected to manage and control the antenna systems. This includes monitoring the systems in real-time to identify anomalies and the appropriate corrective action to ensure sensitive data is not lost. This may include processing, ingesting, archiving, and distributing data. Experience with operating special-purpose digital electronics and terrestrial antenna control systems is preferred. Additionally, knowledge of communication systems, diagnostic techniques, complex computer systems, platforms, applications, and data communications is helpful. Candidates must be a self-starter, detail-oriented, and capable of working within a dynamic, results-oriented, environment. A GSO needs practical experience in using Windows operating systems and similar software within a complex, networked, time-sensitive operational environment. Additionally, the GSO should have good diagnostic problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, as well as the ability to communicate effectively, excellent interpersonal skills, and the capacity to work without supervision. 

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate’s degree in a relevant field (i.e. Information Technology or other related field) and 3 years experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience

Position Details:

This position will be physically located at the UAF campus in Fairbanks, Alaska. The successful finalist will be expected to report to duty at the UAF office on the first day of employment.

This position is full-time, Grade 78, term-funded, non-exempt, 12-month position complete with a competitive salary and UA employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, based on education and experience.
