THIS POSITION IS A GRANT-FUNDED (TERM-FUNDED) POSITION, CURRENTLY FUNDED THROUGH JANUARY 1, 2026. Position is Open Until Filled.
You will design, manage, and optimize technology and processes to streamline IT operations and infrastructure, ensuring stability and innovation in remote locations. As a self-starter and problem solver who enjoys traveling to rural communities, you will work under limited supervision, lead initiatives, and ensure resilience to minimize downtime. You'll identify and implement solutions tailored to the unique needs of these communities, ensuring compliance with security policies and enhancing the overall user experience. Cross-collaboration with other IT functional teams will be essential for developing comprehensive solutions and improving service delivery. Additionally, you will audit the current technology landscape and present the desired future state of these campuses, helping to shape the strategic direction for IT services.
To thrive in this role, the successful Applicant will possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

- Communication: Effective with management, colleagues, and end users; strong written and verbal skills.
- Technical Knowledge: Experience with endpoint and application management, current operating systems (Windows, macOS, etc.), and IT security practices. Proficient in troubleshooting and using computer applications.
- Teamwork and Independence: Ability to work well in a team and independently, with a focus on customer service and quality results.
- Professionalism: Maintain professionalism, work under pressure, and adhere to safety protocols.
- Learning and Adaptability: Willingness to learn new technologies and processes.
- Certifications: Relevant industry certifications (e.g., ITIL, Microsoft, JAMF).
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, operate motorized vehicles, and occasional travel.
- Work Environment: (Occasional) need to work outside of business hours and in diverse settings.
Preferred:
- Experience in higher education settings
- Endpoint management: OS deployment, application packaging, patch management, and virtualization.
- Infrastructure: Server OS, Azure, AWS, VMware.
- Installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting device drivers on Windows and macOS.
- Proficiency with Microsoft System Center, Endpoint Configuration Manager, Windows Group Policy, or JAMF.
- Interaction with users and vendor support to resolve hardware, OS, and application issues.
- Using troubleshooting tools and applications.
- Successful teamwork and organizational goal promotion.
Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION:
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (i.e. Information Technology or other related field) and 4 years' experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
• Industry-standard certifications or academic courses in relevant fields are highly
preferred
• Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria.
TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:
• Demonstrated practical experience supporting computing devices.
Position Details:
This position is located onsite on the Troth Yeddha' campus in Fairbanks, Alaska. This is a grant-funded through January 1, 2026 (term-funded), full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 81, based on education and experience.
