Position Summary:

The Student Photographer position at UAF University Relations assists the Chief Photographer in covering a wide range of photography assignments, from in-studio and on-location portraits to documentary coverage of events, setting up and staging photo scenarios for specific usages, gathering a wide variety of “Campus Life” images, some sports photography and the occasional field research assignment. The Student Photographer is responsible for editing and processing the photos, following the appropriate procedures to ensure proper metadata entry, model release collection, photo shoot archiving and processed image sharing. The Student Photographer will have the opportunity to grow and expand their portfolio under the mentorship and direction of the Chief Photographer, and will also have the opportunity to assist in social media and marketing efforts. Student Photographer must be available to work occasional evening and weekend duties with advance notice.

Intermediate-level photography skills are preferred, including both ambient and artificial lighting capabilities, with journalism experience beinga plus. Ability to interact and socialize with a variety of subjects under a variety of scenarios and conditions. Ability to process photos using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, and ability archive and share photo catalogs using Google Drive preferred.

Digital Photography is required, Journalism preferred, and marketing and social media a plus.

Minimum Qualifications:

Any Photography and/or Journalism classes, and school newspaper and/or yearbook experience.

Be enrolled at UAF with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment; or

Have been enrolled the preceding semester for six or more credit hours and demonstrate plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester for employment between semesters; and 

Position Details:

This recruitment is open to undergraduate students only.

This student staff position is 20 hours/week during the academic year with opportunities for up to 40 hours/week during the summer and pays $18.00/hour.

This is a pooled position, which means that the position remains open over the entire academic year.
