Position Summary:
The Ketchikan Campus of the University of Alaska Southeast seeks a full-time Term Assistant Professor of Communication to provide high-quality instruction in our undergraduate program in hybrid and distance-delivered formats. The Ketchikan Campus of the University of Alaska Southeast seeks a full-time Term Assistant Professor of Communication to provide high-quality instruction in our undergraduate program in hybrid and distance-delivered formats. The preferred candidate will be able to successfully teach communication courses, especially at the level of general education requirements, make communication courses and content accessible and appealing to non-majors, and teach students from a wide variety of backgrounds, especially Alaska native students.
This position requires the ability to collaborate with cross-disciplinary faculty, and create engaging lessons and assignments for online asynchronous courses. In addition, the successful candidate must teach effectively in an online asynchronous learning environment, incorporate indigenous knowledge into communication courses, and work with diverse student groups including but not limited to first generation students, non-traditional students, Alaska Native and American Indian students, and Filipino and Pacific Islander students.
The candidate must deliver effective undergraduate instruction in Southeast Alaska, the cultural homeland of Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian peoples, effectively participate in academic program or curriculum design, or to learn on the job, and act as a mentor and advisor to students, including participation in efforts to engage, recruit, and retain students.
Candidates are especially encouraged to apply who have additional expertise in any of the following areas:

The applicant should possess previous teaching experience, the ability to use a variety of teaching tools, methods, media, and technologies for online courses, and previous experience engaging students in meaningful ways during online, asynchronous courses.
Minimum Qualifications:
Masters in Communication or related field. PhD or ABD preferred.
Position Details:
This position is located on the Ketchikan Campus. This is a full-time, 9 month, represented, term faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.
