Job description:

Provide frontline reception, general administrative and clerical support as part of the Alasdair Macdonald Acute Medical Unit team with Launceston general Hospital.

The Team:

The Alasdair Macdonald Acute Medical Unit (AMU) is a 25-bed high acuity unit focusing on acute medicine, with a strong multidisciplinary approach to healthcare. AMU fosters a supportive and inclusive environment to learning, included access to professional and career development. The Department of Health Tasmania oversees various hospitals across the state, including the Royal Hobart Hospital, Launceston General Hospital, Northwest Regional Hospital, and Mersey Community Hospital, as well as district hospitals and ambulance services. Additionally, it provides community health, mental health, and primary healthcare services to the Tasmanian community through more than 300 sites.

The Role:

The Ward Clerk plays a vital role in supporting the efficient operation of the Acute Medical Unit by providing frontline reception, clerical, and administrative services. Key responsibilities include managing patient admissions, discharges, transfers, and records, updating hospital information systems and handling patient calls and enquiries. The role also involves reporting maintenance issues, ensuring data integrity and compliance with protocols, policies, and reporting obligations. Working under the general supervision of the Nurse Unit Manager, the Ward Clerk exercises judgment and discretion in daily tasks, contributes to quality and safety initiatives, and upholds a strong commitment to child safety and patient care.

You will need to:

  • Provide frontline reception and general administrative and clerical support services to staff working in the AMU.
  • Provide a confidential liaison service with a wide range of health service providers, patients, their families and the general public.
  • Take responsibility for the timely and accurate completion of clerical tasks and the integrity of data in the patient medical record and other patient related services.

Details of appointment:

Fixed term part time, shift worker (fully rotational) position, working 48 hours per fortnight, commencing from a mutually agreed upon date until 15 August 2026.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Salary: $66,049 to $70,993 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022
