Job description:

Provide specialist care to public and private patients. Be involved in research and quality improvement activities, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. Provide specialist advice to inpatient units as required.

The Team:

Launceston General Hospital (LGH) is Tasmania’s largest regional hospital.  As the major clinical teaching and research centre in Northern Tasmania, LGH works closely with the University of Tasmania and other institutions.  All our services work closely together to focus on delivering excellence in healthcare to achieve improved outcomes for our consumers, our workforce, and the Tasmanian community.

The LGH has two dedicated rehabilitation wards, each supported by junior medical staff and a passionate and highly skilled multi-disciplinary team.

This role will work closely with the other physician working in rehabilitation to provide comprehensive inpatient, consulting and outpatient services.

The Role:

This is an exciting new role in rehabilitation and will be primarily responsible for one of the rehabilitation wards as well as establishing medical outpatient rehabilitation services.

The applicant will be a rehabilitation physician, ideally with experience in managing severe spasticity with botulinum toxin.

Details of appointment:

Fixed term full time, day worker with on call, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing 2 February 2026 until 31 January 2027

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant

Salary:

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $216,300 - $310,389 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging 

Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $300,216 -$310,389 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award

  • Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022

In addition, the following allowances and benefit, calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available 

  • Salary packaging options include a range of benefits such as, living expenses up to $9,010 and $2,650 in meals and entertainment every year
  • Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle or  motor vehicle allowance of $28,786 per annum,
  • Subject to approval from the Private Patient Scheme Committee (PPS), 35% of base salary plus on-call, of additional payment will be paid from (PPS). If not admitted to the PPS, a 35% in lieu of PPS of base salary will be paid.
  •  
  • Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,974. per annum.
  • Travel and relocation assistance support available up to $15,000 for eligible appointees from overseas, and up to $10,000 for appointees from interstate. 
  • Professional development and accelerated pathways.
  • A range of leave entitlements, including study leave and Professional Development Support.
  • Fitness Passport – You, and your family can access 40+ fitness facilities across Tasmania for just $14.50 per week per person, or $28.05 for a family.

Eligibility:

 Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria as

  • Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty

    Current Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements)
