Job description:

Provide meals of a high standard to patients, residents, community clients and staff. Ensure individualised dietary needs are provided. Ensure all meal preparation and meal delivery meets the standards set out in the Food Safety Plan. Monitor the use and storage of food, perishable goods and other consumables in accordance with the standards set out in the Food Safety Plan.

The Team:

The King Island Hospital and Health Centre is a facility in Tasmania that provides health and aged care services to the local community. It includes a 24/7 emergency service, inpatient beds, residential aged care beds. A recent redevelopment has aimed to modernise the centre to handle a broader range of inpatient, primary, and community care needs. Food is prepared and cooked on site by the cook with the assistance of a kitchen hand. 

The Role:

The cook (non trade) is responsible for the provision of high quality meals to patients, residents and meals on wheels clients of the facility. They are responsible for understanding allergens, textured modified diets and the requirements to meet the standards of the Food Safety Plan. The cook monitors the use and storage of food, perishable goods and other consumables in accordance with the standards set out in the Food Safety Plan

You will need:

* Ensure a high standard of food preparation and presentation for patients, resident and staff meals.

* Interact effectively with staff, patients, residents and clients to facilitate the provision of optimum meals service.

* Assist in the ordering and receipt of consumables to ensure correct transport and delivery conditions of goods.

Details of appointment:

Permanent, part time, shift worker (fully rotational) position, working 48 hours per fortnight, commencing from the 12 January 2026.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Salary: $63,110 to $66,049 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022

Salary Packaging:

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

Allowances: 

  • District Allowances of up to $4,618 per annum for a family
