The Royal Hobart Hospital is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for a GP with Specific Interest (GPSI) – ADHD Assessment Clinic vacancy.
We are establishing a multidisciplinary, evidence-based ADHD assessment service to support children and adolescents across Tasmania. This initiative aims to reduce wait times, enhance early intervention, strengthen transition pathways to primary care and improve cross-sector collaboration with both educational systems primary care. The service will operate within a public health framework with outreach capability across the state where possible.
GPs with a Specific Interest (GPSI) function as part of a specialty outpatient team by performing clinical duties as determined by the clinical lead of the unit. The role of a GPSI may include consultation with patients, specific procedural tasks, and other tasks specified in the units GPSI scope of practice.
General Practitioner with Special Interest (GPSI) in ADHD Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct ADHD intake assessments and participate in shared care arrangements.
- Provide ongoing management and monitoring of children and adolescents.
- Collaborate with paediatricians, child psychiatrist and allied health in a multidisciplinary setting.
- Assist with transition planning to primary care for long-term management.
- Provide mentorship and case consultation to GPs involved in shared care.
- Contribute to the development of clinical protocols and pathways.
Essential Criteria:
- Current registration with AHPRA as a medical practitioner.
- Recognised GP qualification (FRACGP or equivalent).
- Interest and experience in managing ADHD and child mental health.
- Willingness to undertake further training in ADHD assessment and treatment.
Desirable:
- Previous involvement in chronic disease or mental health collaborative care.

The Role
The GPSI will report to the specialist outpatient clinic’s Clinical Director and:
- Undertake duties independently with limited reporting, acting within clinical privileges as defined.
- Provide patient centred care, including respecting patient rights and responsibilities, ensuring informed consent and demonstrating empathy toward patients and their families.
- Provide supervision of junior doctors and other health professionals in the specialist outpatient clinic team.
- Participate in personal performance appraisal, including clinical audit of performance as quality improvement activity.
- Champion a child safe culture that upholds the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations. The Department is committed to the safety, wellbeing, and empowerment of all children and young people, and expect all employees to actively participate in and contribute to our rights-based approach to care, including meeting all mandatory reporting obligations.
- Where applicable, exercise delegations in accordance with a range of Acts, Regulations, Awards, administrative authorities and functional arrangements as mandated by Statutory office holders including the Secretary and Head of State Service. The relevant Unit Manager can provide details to the occupant of delegations applicable to this position.
- Comply at all times with policy and protocol requirements, including those relating to mandatory education, training and assessment.

Salary
Medical Practitioners (Public Sector) Award
A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent on clinical experience and seniority.
Base salary points range for Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 at $216,300 through to Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 11 at $296,640 with further salary increments available.
- Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $300,216 - $310,389 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award
Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- Allowance in lieu of motor vehicle currently set at $28,786 pro rata per annum, paid fortnightly (with CPI indexation on 1 July each year).
- Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,974 pro rata per annum.
- On call allowance % of Base Salary.
- All other allowances as per current Award.
- And subject to approval from the Private Patient Scheme Committee (PPS), 35% of Base salary plus on-call, pro rata) of additional payment will be paid from (PPS). If not admitted to the PPS, a 35% in lieu of PPS of base salary will be paid.

Details of Appointment
A total of 0.4 FTE Fixed term Part-time day work is available, working 30.4 hours per fortnight commencing as soon as possible until 10 November 2028. The allocation of this FTE is negotiable and the panel may consider 2 candidates at 0.2 FTE if that is more suitable.

Essential Requirements
- Holds specialist registration; or
- Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who is on the specialist pathway
- Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who has a recognised overseas specialist qualification and is assessed as having sufficient experience in the speciality.
- Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration
The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

- Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners; or
- Fellowship of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine
- Current and ongoing clinical practice in the community
