Provide skilled and high quality specialist Orthopaedic services for the patients of the North West within the limits of specified Clinical Privileges.

 

 

What we are looking for:

We are seeking motivated and experienced Staff Specialist - Orthopaedic Surgeon to work for the Department of Health (DoH) in the North West region. This role will require the successful applicant to provide specialist orthopaedic medical care to patients attending North West Regional Hospital (NWRH), Burnie and Mersey Community Hospital (MCH), Latrobe.

The orthopaedic service provides both an on call and consultative service at the NWRH in addition to consultative services at the MCH. The position undertakes general orthopaedic surgery (upper and lower limb) which include, hip and knee replacements and arthroplasty. The current senior staffing consists of full time and part time orthopaedic surgeons with a supportive team of four (4) registrars and six (6) JMO’s.

The right applicants will play a key role in developing health care at both patient and system levels.

The DoH offers a comprehensive undergraduate and graduate clinical training program, with close ties to the University of Tasmania through the Rural Clinical School. As such, you will be responsible for providing leadership and help with the delivery of the Undergraduate general medical education program.

Who are we?

Servicing a population of approximately 116,000, the Department of Health – North West (DoH), has major sites located approximately 50km apart. 

The medical services across the North West region of Tasmania are based primarily at the North West Regional Hospital (NWRH) in Burnie and at the Mersey Community Hospital (MCH) in Latrobe, close to Devonport.  The DoH provides both acute and sub-acute general medicine services including a large outpatient service.

Details of appointment:

Permanent full time, day worker (with on call) position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as you are able to join our team.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time and casual vacancies.

Salary:

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 - Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $216,300 - $310,389 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation.

With the range of allowances included in the salary, the salary package at full time, can range from $452,404 - $629,291 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation. 

Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner base salary range $300,216 -$310,389 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award

  • Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022

The following allowances and benefits, calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Salary packaging options include a range of benefits like living expenses up to $9,010 and $2,650 in meals and entertainment every year
  • Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle or motor vehicle allowance of $28,786 per annum, pro rata
  • Allowance in lieu of private practice schemes 35%
  • North West Recruitment and Retention Allowance 20%
  • Generous relocation assistance and accommodation available

  • Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty
  • Current Working with Children Registration
