Job description:

The Senior Project Officer - Aboriginal Health provides high level project management and policy advice to support the Department's Closing the Gap commitments and develops and builds effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

The Team:

The Aboriginal Health Unit supports the Department of Health to meet its commitments to deliver safe and respectful health services to Aboriginal people in Tasmania by providing strategic policy and program advice and support and coordinating the direction and implementation of key state and national strategies and frameworks for Aboriginal health.  This includes supporting the Department in implementing the Priority Reforms and health commitments under the National Agreement Closing the Gap and ensuring strong relationships with the Aboriginal Community Controlled sector and key stakeholders. 

The Unit was formed in March 2025 to consolidate and elevate the Aboriginal Health portfolio and support the position of the Chief Aboriginal Health Advisor.  The Aboriginal Health Unit is committed to listening to Aboriginal people and working in partnership to Close the Gap and improve health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal people in Tasmania.

The Role:

The Senior Project Officer - Aboriginal Health provides high level project management and policy advice to support the Department's Closing the Gap commitments and develops and builds effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

You will need:

  • Provide high level authoritative and specialist advice on the work areas of the Aboriginal Health Unit and meeting the commitments under Closing the Gap and other key State and national strategies and frameworks.
  • Provide high level leadership, support and coordination to the Manager Aboriginal Health and Chief Aboriginal Health Advisor
  • Lead the delivery of designated project and policy outputs as required.

Details of appointment:

Fixed term full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible for a period of 2 years. 

*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $128,102 to $134,832 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022
