Job description:

Provide specialist emergency medical care to patients attending the Emergency Department (ED) at the Launceston General Hospital (LGH). Participate in research, quality improvement activities and undergraduate, post-graduate, and other teaching programs at the LGH. Provide in specialist advice to inpatient units as required.

Details of Appointment

  • Permanent full-time or part-time position
  • Up to 76 hours per fortnight
  • Commencing from 6 May 2026 (negotiable)

Salary

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $216,300 - $310,389 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation +

  • Allowances as applicable
    • Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle or motor vehicle allowance of $28,786 per annum, pro rata 
    • Participation in Private Practice Scheme 35% or allowance in lieu of private practice schemes 35%
    • Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,974 per annum, pro rata 
    • Travel and relocation assistance support available up to $15,000 for eligible appointees from overseas, and up to $10,000 for appointees from interstate.
  • Access to salary packaging - options include a range of benefits like living expenses up to $9,010 and $2,650 in meals and entertainment every year

The remuneration package for this position, based on classification as a Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 9, starts at $484,000 per annum, with potential for higher earnings dependant on seniority, in accordance with the current Specialist Medical Practitioner Award (Tasmania) 2022

Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $300,216 -$310,389 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award.
