Our Emergency Departments at Mersey Community Hospital (MCH) and North West Regional Hospital (NWRH) deliver high-quality emergency care to communities across North-West Tasmania. Each site has its own identity, leadership, and patient flow, whilst continuing to work closely together, operating under shared nursing and medical governance, with a strong focus on teamwork, professional support, and safe, patient-centred care. The Northwest Emergency Departments are dynamic, high-energy environments where no two shifts are the same. Featuring dedicated resuscitation bays, acute and sub-acute care areas, a fast-track zone, and an ED short stay unit.
We’re passionate about supporting our nurses from day one, with a structured onboarding experience that includes a Transition to Emergency Nursing program designed to build confidence and capability in this fast-paced specialty. Strong academic partnerships with local and interstate universities provide exciting opportunities to further your professional development through postgraduate study.
This recruitment campaign is for experienced Emergency Department nurses, with successful applicants appointed to the Emergency Department service and allocated to either MCH or NWRH based on service requirements. Placement preferences can be discussed during the interview process, and we are committed to working with successful applicants where operationally possible.

The Role:
We are seeking dedicated Registered Nurses for the Emergency Department at the Mersey Community Hospital and the Northwest Regional Hospital. We are looking for passionate nurses who not only are clinically sound but also value the human interactions that build the core meaning of what it is to care for people. The ideal candidate will be professional, dedicated, compassionate, and empathic, taking time in their day to connect with patients while they are at their most vulnerable. This will ensure that every patient journey reflects safety, respect and professionalism. Our Registered Nurses strengthen health outcomes through the provision of safe quality, clinically appropriate nursing care in partnership with patients/clients, their families and other health professionals. The ideal Registered Nurse will:
- Have post graduate qualification in Emergency Nursing and Emergency nursing experience with skills in Triage and Resuscitation.
- Provide advice, care, and support to patients within your area of expertise.
- Show initiative, being adaptable and able to respond and adjust easily to change.
- Resilience, persevering to achieve your goals in the face of obstacles and remaining calm and in control under pressure.
- Be ready to be part of building great teams that work well together.
You will need:
- Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse.
- Minimum 2 years experience as an RN in an Emergency Department.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills, with the ability to prioritise in a fast-paced setting.
- Competent in resuscitation roles inclusive of airway, procedures and scribe.
- Completed ETEK and triage competent.
- Post graduate degree in emergency nursing/critical care (desired).

Details of appointment:
- Multiple positions available at both Mersey Community Hospital and Northwest Regional Hospital, Permanent full time and part time, shift worker (fully rotational) position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from as soon as you can join us.
*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary: $80,524 to $109,175 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.
Access to the Grade 4 salary range $102,439- $109,175 is subject to successful application for progression to Grade 4
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type
Salary Packaging:
You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.
