Child and Youth Mental Health Services | Tasmanian Department of Health

The Role

As part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering high quality mental health services in accordance with the Mental Health Services Strategic Plan, Mental Health Service principles, National Mental Health Standards, Agency policy, legal requirements and relevant professional competencies, the Allied Health Professional - Child and Youth Mental Health Services (CYMHS) is an advanced role that provides mental health support and education to patients and their families and clinical leadership to other members of the multi-disciplinary team.

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Allied Health Professional with experience in mental health assessment, complex care coordination, and trauma-informed individual therapies. Knowledge and experience working in mental health services with young people would be ideal. The Allied Health Professional will have a passion for providing a person-centred approach, trauma-informed therapy, and experience working within a multidisciplinary team environment. 

• Undertakes the delivery of quality care to clients of Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS)
based on best practice principles and within a collaborative and multi-disciplinary framework.
• Provides a specialist assessment and treatment service to clients of CAMHS and their families or carers.
• Promotes community awareness in relation to mental health and acts as a consultant to other agencies with
regard to the support and management of clients with mental health needs.

You will need

1. A minimum of two years’ post-graduate employment in a clinical area directly applicable to the CAMHS area, with a demonstrated clinical knowledge and understanding of mental health in relation to CAMHS, including the ability to provide appropriate assessment of mental health problems.

2. Demonstrated expertise in the theoretical and practical application of a range of therapeutic interventions
relevant to CAMHS, with the ability to acquire further expertise into the future.
 
3. Experience and demonstrated knowledge and skills in relation to liaison and consultation with other
services and agencies in the context of optimising effective and efficient service provision, advice and
training and continuity of care.

Details of appointment

Permanent, full time, day worker position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible. 

*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Salary

$117,272 to $131,122 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement No.2 of 2025

Salary Packaging

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible. 

Allowances

  • Please note that access to salaries beyond $123,487 is subject to qualifications and/or application to the personal upgrade scheme 

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available: 

  • Professional Development Allowance of up to $1000 per annum

Eligibility

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

  • Satisfactory completion of an approved allied health professional tertiary qualification/program of study and registered with the relevant National Board or, in the case of self-regulated allied health professions, full membership/eligible for membership with the relevant professional association
  • Current Working with Children Registration

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  • Minimum of 2 years post graduate experience in an area relevant to the role
  • Postgraduate qualification or working towards a postgraduate qualification relevant to the role
  • Current Driver’s Licence
