Job description:

The Education Officer supports the Office of the Independent Regulator’s vision of working with organisations to strengthen their child-safe practices by developing and delivering engaging and persuasive educational messages, materials, and activities. As a member of the Strategic Engagement Team, the Education Officer collaborates closely with policy and communications/engagement colleagues to develop accessible and engaging educational opportunities for organisations and community members.

Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight - flexible options available. 

Duties

  • Provide strategic input into the development of capability-building educational initiatives designed to support organisations to establish and strengthen their child-safe practices. 
     
  • Develop and deliver educational activities (both in person and online) to government and non-government stakeholders relating to the functions of the Office, including organisational compliance with the Child and Youth Safe Organisations Framework.  
     
  • Contribute to the development of practical resources, communications, website information and stakeholder materials aimed at building organisations’ skills and confidence in their child-safe practices. 
     
  • Build and maintain stakeholder relationships across priority sectors, such as Aboriginal communities, victim-survivors of institutional child abuse, and in-scope organisations. 
     
  • Support the Office’s data management practices, including the evaluation of quantitative and qualitative data against its strategic priorities. 
     
  • Perform other duties as envisaged by the assigned classification under the relevant award and in accordance with the skills, competence and training of the occupant as required.  

Essential Requirements

  • Employment to the Office is subject to the satisfactory completion of security and related vetting including satisfactory a current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable Persons Check (RWVP). 

Desirable Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in education, training, policy, communications or journalism, or demonstrated work experience in a relevant field. 

  • A Tasmanian Driver’s licence.

Pre-employment Checks

The Head of State Service has determined that the person nominated for this vacancy is to satisfy a pre-employment check before taking up the appointment, promotion or transfer.

The following checks are to be conducted:

  1. Pre-employment (National Police Record) checks for: Arson and fire setting, violent crimes and crimes against the person, sex-related offences, drug and alcohol related offences, crimes involving dishonesty, deception and/or conspiracy, making false declarations, malicious damage and destruction to property, serious traffic offences, crimes against public order or relating to the Administration of Law and Justice, Executive or the Legislative Power.
  2. Disciplinary action in previous employment.
  3. Identification check.
