Job description:
• To provide community legal education and legal and referral information to victims of family violence; and community groups and volunteers, workers and professionals who come across issues of family violence, with a particular focus on outreach and building engagement.
• To provide legal advice, representation, support and assistance to victims of family violence and children affected by family violence in accordance with Safe at Home policies, and in conjunction with the Court Support and Liaison Service, Family Violence Counselling & Support Service, Police Prosecution and other Safe at Home and Safe Choices Project service providers.
• To assist in the development of the whole-of-government response to family violence.

Period of Appointment
Fixed Term - 3 years
Hours per fortnight
73.50 hours per fortnight - flexible options available.
Duties
- Provide outreach services and on-the-ground community legal education across Tasmania, with a particular focus on the Northwest region.
- Engage in service development and other community legal education activities fostered by Tasmania Legal Aid as directed.
- Attend, advise and support clients in family violence matters across Tasmania, with a particular focus on the Northwest region, and co-operate with other Safe at Home services, including Safe Choices.
- Appear as solicitor and counsel in the Magistrates Court and Supreme Court in Hobart (and potentially Launceston & the North-West if required) for victims of family violence in relation to family violence orders, including participating in mediation and/or conferences on behalf of Tasmania Legal Aid’s clients in relation to family violence matters; and to appear in family-violence related matters.
- Perform such other professional work as may be directed from time to time.
Essential Requirements
- Admitted or eligible for admission as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Tasmania.
- Current Tasmanian Registration Working with Vulnerable People (Registration Status-Employment).
- Current Motor Vehicle Driver’s Licence.
Desirable Requirements
- A Legal Practitioner with more than 2 years’ relevant post-admission experience.
