JOB SUMMARY:

Peer Advisors are paraprofessional staff members of the Center for Academic Success. PAs work with a plethora of areas to ensure the success of the University's new student and family orientation programs during the summer. PA's assist first year students with adjustments to University life by helping them become familiar with the policies and procedures stated in both the Undergraduate Catalog and Student Handbook.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Peer Advisors assist new students and family members. The position requires flexibility, adaptability, enthusiasm and commitment as he/she is called upon to respond to changing needs and situations. The successful PA develops interpersonal relationships with and between first-year students. PAs professionally conduct themselves and model positive behavior consistent with the Catholic mission of the University, community life, and academic success.

• A PA is responsible for 1-2 University Life classes of first-year students during the student's first academic year
• A PA may assist the Admissions Office with prospective student and family programs by providing campus tours and assisting with information sessions, open houses, etc.
• Work days, nights and weekends
• Ability to effectively handle administrative tasks such as appropriate phone etiquette, filing, copying, etc.
• Ability to respect confidential information
• Be familiar with various University offices, departments and resources
• Disseminate appropriate information effectively and in a timely fashion
• Enforce University policies
• Serve as a role model both on and off campus
• Other duties as assigned

• Be familiar with the Village of South Orange community
• Help new students get acquainted with their peer group and follow up with individual first-year students regularly
• Wear the assigned PA uniform and name tag when appropriate
• Participate in a performance evaluation process
• Coordinate informal study groups
• Assist in the Center for Academic Success, ARC, TSC, and Pirate Pathway offices
• Assist Mentors with office responsibilities (filing, copying, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Must be available to work
• Successfully completed 30 credits by May 15, 2024.
• Be registered for a full time course (12 cr.) load for Fall 2024.
• Be in good academic standing by May 15, 2024.
• Be in good judicial standing.
• Demonstrated leadership experience as evidenced by participation in extra-curricular activities.
• Be responsible, able to take initiative, be flexible and problem solve.
• Ability to work with diverse people.
• Available to work fall and spring semesters 2024-2025
