The Office of General Counsel (OGC) at Seton Hall University is conducting a search for an Assistant General Counsel. We seek a lawyer with the abilities, experience and interests to provide advice on a wide range of legal issues in the increasingly complex environment of higher education. This is a full-time, 12-month, administrative position.

OCG is Seton Hall’s Law Office. The lawyers provide legal advice, counseling, and service to Seton Hall. Our responsibility is to provide our best, independent advice in the interest of Seton Hall.

OGC lawyers are both specialists and generalists. OGC lawyers work independently but also collaboratively in a collegial atmosphere of a fast-paced law office within the University community, as well as with outside law firms. They must manage of wide variety of complicated issues, exercise independent judgement, and function effectively with internal and external constituencies. This position will report to the General Counsel.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide advice and guidance to the University’s senior leaders, schools and colleges, and administrative areas pertaining to a comprehensive and sophisticated range of legal issues.

Contract and policy review, employment law and Human Resource issues.

Internal investigations, real estate transactions, student services, regulatory compliance, Title IX, intellectual property, trust and estate matters, and general academic matters.

Litigation management and support and subpoena and record requests.

Required Qualifications:

Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school. Admitted to the Bar of the State of New Jersey and in good standing. A minimum of two years of relevant legal practice experience with significant knowledge and experience in litigation and representing not-for-profit organizations. Experience representing institutions of higher education preferred.
