JOB SUMMARY
|
The Cybersecurity Research & Systems Assistant supports faculty in preparing and maintaining cybersecurity lab environments, instructional materials, and workshop resources. The student assists with software installation, system configuration, and technical tasks required for teaching, research, and hands-on lab sessions. This role also includes basic troubleshooting, documentation, and coordination to ensure smooth operation of cybersecurity activities in the department. |
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

- Install, configure, and test software, virtual machines, security tools, and applications required for the workshops and regular class labs. - Check, maintain, and troubleshoot Wi-Fi adapters, network devices, lab computers, and systems used for teaching. - Prepare, organize, and update instructional materials, lab documentation, and technical guides. - Support faculty during cybersecurity demonstrations, hands-on exercises, and instructional activities. - Assist with lab setup before class sessions, including connecting devices, preparing virtual machines, and verifying equipment functionality. - Test new tools and lab instructions to ensure materials work correctly before workshops and courses. - Help maintain the cybersecurity lab environment, report issues promptly, and contribute to a clean, organized, and secure workspace. - Perform other related technical or administrative tasks as assigned by the faculty supervisor. |
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
|
- Strong interest in cybersecurity, computer science, IT, or related fields. - Basic knowledge of operating systems (Windows, Linux) and general computer troubleshooting. - Ability to follow technical instructions carefully and complete tasks independently. - Good communication, organization, and time-management skills. - Reliability, professionalism, and attention to detail in a lab environment. |
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
|
- Experience working with virtual machines. - Familiarity with common cybersecurity tools. - Coursework in cybersecurity, networking, or system administration. - Prior experience helping in labs, workshops, or IT environments. - Comfortable working with routers, switches, Wi-Fi adapters, or small network setups. |
