JOB SUMMARY

Health Profession Student Mentors are important members of the academic team that advise high school students interested in pursuing healthcare professional careers. Mentors work collectively with program instructors to provide relevant assistance per the grade level of the students participating in experiences such as:

  • Clinical Skills Labs (Blood Pressure, Knot tying, ACE bandage, Glove & Gowning)
  • Research project development and presentation
  • Peer to peer discussions of academic experiences
  • Panel presentation of clinical experiences
  • Campus Tours

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Health Profession Student Mentors will ensure a progressively collegiate focus to the student experience schedule. Mentors must be enrolled as health profession students in the Seton Hall University School of Health and Medical Sciences, be in good academic standing, and demonstrate the following:

  • Willingness to complete a minors on campus training, briefing, and debriefing meetings
  • Capable of helping mentees navigate academic and career questions
  • Ability to clearly explain medical concepts at a high school level
  • Patience, understanding, and respect for diversity
  • Active listening and empathy

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Must be enrolled in a health professions graduate program

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience and/or interest in teaching and mentoring K-12 school aged students

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS

The program operates during the academic year (Fall and Spring). Fall and Spring sessions are one weekday per month between 8:00 am to 2:00pm. Note: Academic Year weekday school hours are adjusted as needed per school.
