Duties and Responsibilities:

The part-time Media Relations Graduate Assistant is an important member of the Media Relations Team. The Graduate Assistant must have excellent writing and editing abilities, including an understanding of the basics of media relations. The candidate should be able to write a press release, a news story, and enjoy interacting with the media through both traditional and social media channels. The G.A. responsibilities will include writing, editing, administrative support and other duties as assigned. At times the GA will be asked to assist nights and weekends if available.

The G.A. will provide support to the Director of Media Relations, Associate Director of Media Relations, and other members of University Relations. Responsibilities include: public relations writing projects; content for our social media channels; media support at university conferences and events; creating and updating media lists, learning and using media databases such as Cision and MERIT to create and distribute press releases as well as research new media contacts and opportunities, organizing and filing press clips, composing media analytics, compiling, maintaining and distributing weekly, monthly, special project and annual clip reports. The GA serves as liaison to the DOVE Committee, assisting with publicity efforts. The GA assists with media relations projects, including helping to respond to reporter’s requests, and helping to train and mentor undergraduate students. The position requires a candidate who can interact with numerous University constituencies seamlessly, working cross-functionally with teams in support of larger projects, as well as working directly with the media, providing public relations support as needed.



Required Qualifications:

As a part-time position the Media Relations Graduate Assistant must be fully matriculated in a Seton Hall Graduate Program. We are only considering candidates for the spring semester. The position offers 6 credits of tuition remission. The student must work 20 hours a week to receive a stipend of $700 a month. We desire the student to work 20 hours a week during the summer for a stipend of $700 a month but no tuition remission is available in the summer for this part-time position.
Excellent written and oral communication skills. All candidates must include three public relations/communications writing samples such as a press release, a news story or article and a social media blog. Ability to multi-task, prioritize and jump quickly into projects. Strong team work ethic. Positive and flexible attitude.

Desired Qualifications:

BA/BS in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism or related field is preferred
Previous internship experience in communications, public relations, marketing or related field is a plus.
