Mississippi State University (MSU) is seeking a Project Coordinator. This position works closely with the research staff at the Advanced Composites Institute based in Starkville, MS. This position requires serving as a liaison to stakeholders, managing day-to-day activities, and enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the Institute. The Institute conducts industry and government sponsored collaborative research in the field of advanced composite and serves as the focal point of inter-departmental research by providing exposure to industry focused research working directly with technical experts. Mission objectives for the Institute include the development of advanced design-build concepts for high-rate manufacturing. The institute serves as an expert resource for technology development in the aerospace, automotive, marine, ballistics, and energy sectors.

Department Profile:

The Advanced Composites Institute, or ACI, focuses on pioneering transformational composite
technologies in a variety of critical sectors, including aerospace, civil, military, energy, automotive and
other emerging markets. It was created at MSU with the donation of a revolutionary stitched composite
process and equipment originally developed at NASA by pioneering scientist Marvin B. Dow.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The functions of the position include but are not limited to the following:

1. Assist in the daily management and administration of the Institute.
2. Assist in planning, developing, and implementing of advanced composite research to ensure successful completion of goals.
3. Prepares and maintains proposal and project paperwork to meet the goals of the project.
4. Monitors progress of research activities, develops, and maintains records and reports as required by investigators, administrators, funding agencies, and/or regulatory bodies.
5. Plans and coordinates meetings/events, including trainings, customer tours, and student engagements.
6. Supports development and coordination of proposals, presentations, and other projects.
7. Supports communication and marketing goals by maintaining the Institute’s website, developing content, and developing and maintaining a social media strategy.
8. Provide back-up graphic design support, from concept to delivery, for publication materials and marketing pieces
9. Provide training as needed to departmental staff on best practices for creating, managing, monitoring, and developing content for social media channels.
10. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in related field, and 1 year experience in administration, program coordination, or related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 3 years related experience in administration, program coordination, or related experience.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies.
• Ability to supervise and train staff.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Experience in managing projects and leading project teams.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
• Demonstrated competency with desktop publishing software, including Adobe PhotoShop, Illustrator, or comparable applications.
• Effective written, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills are required.
• Must have the ability to work effectively with staff, students, and faculty.
• Must be willing to travel.
• Must be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends for special events.
• Must hold a valid driver’s license.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

• Physical requirements include frequent sitting, talking, hearing walking, and standing. Occasionally requires reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and electronically.
• Externally driven deadlines set and revised beyond one’s control; interruptions influence priorities; difficult to anticipate nature or volume or work with certainty beyond a few days; meeting of deadlines and coordination of unrelated activities are key to position.
