The Assistant Director is responsible for providing general financial aid loan counseling to students/parents seeking assistance. The Assistant Director is also responsible for the review of all applicant data to determine eligibility for Title IV Financial Aid Loan eligibility. The Assistant Director will be responsible for the management of specific programs and/or processes as required by the Associate Director for The Student Loan Office. The Assistant Director will help resolve student/parent financial aid issues that could not be resolved at the Loan Counselor level.

Salary Grade:  14

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Responsible for managing specific loan aid programs and/or processes as assigned by the Associate Director for The Student Loan Office.

2. Responsible for assisting in the resolution of discrepancies or issues with student/parent applicants that could not be resolved at the Counselor level.

3. Award and originate Federal Direct Student loans to eligible student applicants as needed by the Associate Director.

4. Responsible for keeping abreast of all state, federal, and institutional rules and regulations applicable to the administration of student financial aid funds.

5. Reviews and awards all student reports in a timely, accurate, and consistent manner to determine eligibility for Loan aid.

6. Prepare data for correspondence, including letters, emails, and other documents used to communicate with students and parents on the student loan programs.

7. Provides input into the development and revision of all Direct Loan and Alternative Loan letters, memoranda, and other documents used to communicate with student/parents relative to loan area administration.

8. Acts as a lead in the loan counseling area: training new staff, working on C-Flag student reports with the Associate Director along with Physician Assistant program student processing, and Doctoral Veterinary Medical program student processing.

9. Participate in student orientation and financial aid presentation events.

10. Participate in staff development and financial aid training events.

11. Performs related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility:
Provide supervisory support as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education Bachelor’s Degree Business or related field

Experience (yrs.) Strong student orientation with pertinent work experience.

AND

One to three years staff management experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in Business or prior management experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Strong, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
2. Strong analytical and organizational skills.
3. Ability to learn, interpret and apply complex federal financial aid regulations.
4. Ability to work with various groups of people.
5. Ability to utilize computer skills in an automated work environment.
6. Ability to provide excellent customer service.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

1. Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
2. No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
3. No or very limited physical effort required.
