Position Function:
Carries out tasks as requested for grounds maintenance projects. Responsible for opening and closing of site gates and monitoring trail conditions.
Employees hired into Intermittent positions are limited to working no more than 720 hours per fiscal year.

Department Profile:
Coastal Research and Extension Center serves as Mississippi State University's southern exposure. This position will be housed at the Crosby Arboretum in Picayune, MS. The Crosby Arboretum is the premier environmental education facility for the Gulf South. The Arboretum's mission is to preserve and promote the region’s botanical, biological, and cultural heritage.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Carries out interior and exterior projects as directed.
2. Provides janitorial/custodial services for buildings and public areas (e.g., cleaning, blowing, litter pickup, trash removal, etc.)
3. Assists with grounds maintenance tasks (e.g., trail repair and maintenance and debris removal).
4. Assists with set-up, break-down, and parking for Arboretum events, golf cart operation, and visitor parking.
5. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High School diploma or GED.
Licensure: Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in construction, farm, or other outdoor work experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of proper maintenance protocols for vehicles, equipment, buildings, and vegetation.
2. Ability to follow detailed instructions.
3. Ability to work a flexible schedule. Primary work hours will be required on weekends (Saturday and Sunday), with additional hours scheduled during weekdays as needed.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
1. Ability to actively work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, noise, dust, dirt, etc.
2. Frequently lifts 60 pounds; occasionally lifts more than 100 pounds; frequently walks, kneels, crouches, bends, twists, and engages in other physical exertion.
