Position Function:
The Thad Cochran National Warmwater Aquaculture Center is seeking a motivated and skilled Research Associate to support ongoing research in aquaculture, focusing on the development of feed additives and alternative ingredients, and testing these products in catfish feeding trials. The successful candidate will work closely with faculty members, graduate students and industry collaborators to conduct applied research aimed at improving aquaculture systems and practices. Under general supervision, employs a broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures in a particular field of specialization to plan, coordinate, and conduct research.
Salary Grade: 13

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
-Assist in maintaining the aquaculture systems and caring for the animals.
-Conduct laboratory and field-based experiments involving fish nutrition trials.
-Manufacturing experimental diets and running proximate analysis of feeds and ingredients.
-Collect, manage, and analyze experimental data using appropriate statistical tools and software.
-Prepare reports, research papers and presentations for internal use and external dissemination.
-Assist with the supervision and training of undergraduate and graduate students involved in aquaculture research.
-Ensure compliance with ethical standards, biosecurity protocols, and health and safety regulations.
Minimum Qualifications:
B.S. degree in Aquaculture, Marine Biology, Fisheries, Animal Science, or closely related field.
Rank and salary will be commensurate with the education and/or experience of the candidate.
Preferred Qualifications:
-M.Sc. degree in Aquaculture, Marine Biology, Fisheries, Animal Science or closely related field.
-Experience working with stakeholders or within interdisciplinary research teams.
-Demonstrated experience in aquaculture nutrition research.
-Proficiency in laboratory and field techniques relevant to aquaculture.
-Strong analytical and data management skills.
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
-Proficiency in Microsoft software (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of scientific approach and methodologies.
Ability to develop and follow research methodology and protocol.
Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise.
Knowledge of scientific research principles, practices, and protocols.
Ability to design, organize, and coordinate scientific research projects.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
-Physical requirements include frequent walking and standing, and occasional reaching and climbing, and lifting bags up to 50 lbs.
-The position may require handling hazardous chemicals.
