Position Function:
The Department of Agricultural & Biological Engineering (ABE) at Mississippi State University (MSU) invites applications for two tenure track, 9-month, assistant professor positions in agricultural/biosystems engineering. Applicants should be clearly committed to excellence in teaching and be able to articulate a prospective research program that has promise for sustainable external funding and national recognition. Candidates with experience and expertise in all areas of agricultural/biosystems engineering will be considered, but strengths in sensors, analytics, and mechatronics for autonomous systems, precision agriculture, and process-control are particularly desirable.

Department Profile:
The Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering has 18 on-campus faculty and several adjunct/affiliate faculty off-campus within research centers and government agencies, engaged in teaching, research, and extension. The department is co-administered by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the Bagley College of Engineering and offers undergraduate (B.S.) and graduate (M.S. and Ph.D.) degrees in three distinct program areas: Biological Engineering, Biomedical Engineering and Agricultural Engineering Technology and Business. Within these programs, the department has over 450 undergraduates and over 50 graduate students. The J. Charles Lee Agricultural and Biological Engineering Building, includes more than 6,000 square feet of state-of-the-art instructional and research facilities and includes separate labs for sterile tissue culture, bio-mechanical testing, environmental and agricultural simulation or modeling studies, electronic/robotic design fabrication and testing, fiber processing, GPS/GIS, renewable bio-energy, and student computing resources. The department also has significant additional lab spaces in the Pace Building for research in autonomous agricultural systems and bio-energy. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Candidates will be expected to teach in the Bio-systems Engineering (BSE) and Agricultural Engineering Technology and Business (AETB) curricula and, conduct research, and advise undergraduate and graduate students. They must establish a strong record of research, teaching, and service.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in Agricultural Engineering, Bio-systems Engineering, Agricultural Technology Management, Agricultural Systems Management, Agricultural Engineering Technology, or an equivalent to one of these or a closely related discipline, as well as excellent verbal and writing skills, are required. Applicants must have a strong commitment to teaching excellence, scholarly production, and grantsmanship and should have the ability to conduct multi-disciplinary collaborative research

Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience with instruction and course development. Previous experience with lower-level and upper-level courses. Previous experience with in-person and online courses. Previous experience writing research proposals and manuscripts.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Candidates should have skills and abilities in teaching and mentoring students in the classroom and in a research environment.
