To direct and supervise the nursing staff in the provision of quality health care within the Longest Student Health Center.

Salary Grade:  15

Area of Specialization:  Medical 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Provides and supervises direct patient care and assessment, ensuring quality control of area nursing operations.
2. Assist physicians with policy and objective formulation, interpretation, and implementation.
3. Provides professional and administrative supervision and leadership to professional and support nursing staff; allocates and evaluates work, provides guidance and training, and participates in hiring and performance management decision making as appropriate.
4. Provides direct routine patient assessment and treatment, to include clinical/nursing procedures, as required within the parameters of the health center; notifies attending physician as required for non-routine care or other unusual medical circumstance.
5. Promote and coordinate continuing education for staff and in-service training meetings.
6. Maintain medical supply and equipment inventory and ensures the functionality of clinic facilities.
7. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
8. Serves as liaison and provides consultation on related issues, regulations, and standards pertaining to area of clinical specialty.
9. Perform related duties as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibility

Full supervisory responsibility for other employees is a major responsibility and includes training, evaluating, and making or recommending pay, promotion or other employment decisions.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Nursing Degree from an Accredited nursing program.

Experience: 3 years Experience and demonstrated current clinical competence in nursing practice.

Substitutions: Indicated education and experience is required. No substitutions.

Certification or Licensure Requirements: Currently licensed as a registered nurse in the state of Mississippi.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous managerial experience in a healthcare setting > 1 year

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures. Knowledge of patient evaluation. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements. Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Knowledge of current and emerging trends in technologies, techniques, issues, and approaches in area of expertise. Skill in preparing and maintaining patient records in an electronic health record (EHR) system.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Occasional and/or light lifting required. Limited exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, etc., but none to the point of being disagreeable. May involve minor safety hazards where likely result would be cuts, bruises, etc.

Routine deadlines; usually sufficient lead time; variance in work volume seasonal and predictable; priorities can be anticipated; some interruptions are present; involves occasional exposure to demands and pressures from persons other than immediate supervisor.

Job frequently requires standing, walking, sitting, reaching, stooping/kneeling,
crouching/crawling, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands, and lifting up to 50 pounds.

Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
