Position Function:
The Manager of Sponsored Programs Accounting is responsible for managing the Sponsored Programs Accounting Office within the Controller and Treasurer’s Office. The position also assists Business Managers, Accountants, and other fiscal personnel at the university.

Department Profile:
Sponsored Programs Accounting is primarily responsible for managing the restricted funds of Mississippi State University.
This includes calculating and posting overhead, invoicing the appropriate agencies, monitoring timely receipt of the funds, and preparing financial reports for external agencies.
Additionally, our office coordinates the time and effort reporting cycle, processes cost transfers, performs non-sufficient fund checking on restricted funds and continuously monitors accounts for compliance purposes.
It is our goal to provide friendly, efficient service to all users of the sponsored programs accounting system.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provide supervision, training, and leadership to the Sponsored Program Accounting staff in performance of their duties. Full supervisory responsibility for other employees is a major responsibility and includes training, evaluating, and making or recommending pay, promotion, or other employment decisions.
2. Monitor project expenditures for adherence to contract/grant term conditions and compliance with federal/state regulations.
3. Prepare financial reports and invoicing documents as required. Review invoices prepared by the accounting staff. Ensure that finals are submitted according to term conditions.
4. Assist with development and implementation of sponsored program accounting system enhancements.
5. Offer research administrative post-award guidance and support to include deans, department heads, PIs, department staff.
6. Prepare accounting entries for recording to general ledger, as necessary.
7. Oversee and prepare indirect cost distributions for indirect cost recovered on sponsored projects.
8. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or Management, or related field.
2. Five years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Management. Experience working in Banner software application.
2. Experience working in Banner software application.
3. Direct experience with Grants and Contracts Accounting.
4. Advanced degree (E.g., MBA) and/or professional certification (E.g., CRA, CFRA, CPA).

4. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.
5. Working knowledge of Crystal Reports.

8. Willingness to embrace new technology and adapt to new rules and regulations in the ever-evolving area of sponsored programs.
9. Ability to manage priorities and meet multiple daily deadlines.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
1. Routine deadlines; usually enough lead time; variance in work volume seasonal and predictable; priorities can be anticipated; some interruptions are present; involves occasional exposure to demands and pressures from persons other than immediate supervisor; frequent evening and weekend work is required.
2. Job frequently requires sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, and handling objects with hands.
3. Job occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting to 25 pounds.
4. Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
