Position Function:
Computer Electronics Technician will provide basic Linux user support and assist in writing user documentation. The position assists in maintaining and optimizing Linux-based systems and servers, focusing on tasks like system setup, updates, and routine troubleshooting, under the guidance of experienced administrators.

Department Profile:
The High Performance Computing Collaboratory (HPC²), an evolution of the MSU NSF Engineering Research Center (ERC) for Computational Field Simulation, at Mississippi State University is a coalition of member institutes and centers that share a common core objective of advancing the state-of-the-art in computational science and engineering using high performance computing; a common approach to research that embraces a multi-disciplinary, team-oriented concept; and a commitment to a full partnership between education, research, and service. The mission of the HPC² is to serve the University, State, and Nation through excellence in computational science and engineering.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assist with installation and configuration of Linux desktops and servers.
2. Assist in Linux desktop and server troubleshooting.
3. Provide basic assistance to HPC2 users on Linux and HPC-related tasks.
4. Promote and support adherence to security guidelines among users.
5. Assist users with basic software installation and compilation.
6. Troubleshoot desktop and server hardware issues under the guidance of experiences computing administrators.
7. Utilizes scripting languages to assist in task automation.
8. Collaborates with other HPC2 computing administrators as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
Basic knowledge of the Linux operating system
Understanding of computing and networking fundamentals.
High School Diploma
Preferred Qualifications:
Practical experience with the Linux operating system.
Educational experience in the field of Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or closely related field or certifications.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Knowledge of Linux command line for system administration tasks
• Basic understanding of networking concepts
• Familiarity with scripting languages like Bash
• Ability to identify and solve problems
• Ability to communicate technical information clearly and concisely
• Understanding of basic security principles
• Familiarity with virtualization technologies or containers
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
• Position requires incumbent to occasionally stand, walk, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly use hands, lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift/or move up to 30 pounds.
• Work is performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
• Very limited exposure to physical risk.
