Position Function:
Network Administrator is a position under administrative supervision of the Manager of Network Services in Information Technology Infrastructure. Specific activities include installation, maintenance, management, and support of data network electronics and software in an enterprise 40-Gigabit/100-Gigabit Ethernet network.
Salary Grade: 15

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assist with deploying and monitoring core network infrastructure equipment in the MSU network, including physically installing network hardware in wiring closets, routing and interconnecting cable interfaces, and installing and configuring software.
2. Evaluate, test, and recommend new network hardware and software.
3. Provide technical support and guidance to the other divisions within Information Technology Services and to the MSU community at large.
4. Meet regularly with other members of Information Technology Infrastructure staff to discuss current issues and future plans.
5. Be available weekends and nights for performance of duties as required.
6. Periodically, perform on-call duties by carrying a pager that alerts on system network emergencies requiring immediate response 7x24.
7. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or other technical field, or any equivalent experience in a network administration field.
Preferred Qualifications:
The following are desirable in addition to the minimum qualifications:
• Network related certifications such as Cisco CCNA/CCNP or CWNP.
• Experience with network protocol analysis/interpretation.
• Experience with network routers and switches.
• Experience with Fortinet firewall hardware and management software.
• Experience with 802.11a/g/n/ac/ax wireless deployments.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Experience with Python, perl, bash or other UNIX/LINUX scripting and text processing languages.
• Experience with Ethernet.
• Experience with TCP/IP and other Internet protocols.
• Well-developed interpersonal communication skills.
• Personal initiative.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
• Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
• Job occasionally requires standing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting up to 50 pounds
• Vision requirements: ability to see information in print and/or electronically
• Hearing requirements: Ability to hear and respond to telephone conversations.
• Dexterity and visual acuity: required to be able to use computer screens and keyboards and manipulate small devices and parts.
• No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
