The ACCESS Employment Coordinator supports the academic, career development, and independent living development needs of students in the ACCESS program.

Employees hired into Intermittent positions are limited to working no more than 720 hours per fiscal year.

Salary Grade:  14

Department Profile:

The A.C.C.E.S.S. Program is a four-year postsecondary education program dedicated to ensuring students with intellectual and developmental disabilities receive a quality education through experiences in academics, career development, and independent living.

The A.C.C.E.S.S. Program is housed within the College of Education's Mississippi Institute on Disabilities which represents an interdisciplinary hub focused on innovative and convergent research, service, and training to support individuals with disabilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Maintain and strengthen existing employment partner relationships and develop new relationships for ACCESS internship sites located on the MSU campus and in the Starkville community.
• Coordinate employment supports for students placed in internships such as navigation guides, job coaches, and employment interventions to improve soft/hard skill development.
• Administer evaluation process for ACCESS internships where employment coordinator and student intern receive frequent feedback from internship site supervisor during the 12-week internship each semester.
• Educate students on the career management process and soft skill expectations of employers through teaching students enrolled in the On-Campus employment and Off-Campus employment courses.
• Instruct students on what it takes to retain employment through a weekly employment lab and teach classes that cover skills related to basic employment and maintaining employment.
• Assist students in navigating a realistic career path through monthly meetings with students and teaching courses related to career exploration
• Develop and/or update curriculum for ACCESS employment courses.
• Create differentiated levels of support for interview skills sessions based on individual student need.
• Partner with local representatives of MDRS and Ability works to provide ACCESS students with career assessments, job coaches at internships and financial aid assistance.
• Assist with on-call coverage (typically an average of one weekend per month during the fall and spring semester).
• Keep ACCESS Director informed of needs and concerns related to student behavior and progress through staff meetings and individual supervision
• Help to staff ACCESS summer camp, typically three days in May and/or June
• Assist in selection of ACCESS students including reviewing applications and participating in interview days.
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree in rehabilitation counseling, psychology, social work, or related field
• Certified Rehabilitation Counselor certification or eligible for certification
• Experience with young adults with disabilities
• Experience with community involvement
• Experience with employment placement or vocational assessments
• Teaching experience with universal design background

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

1. Work is primarily performed in an indoor, temperature-controlled facility; however, special events may be held outdoors.
2. Frequent travel within the local area is required and successful applicant must have reliable transportation. Infrequent travel outside the area for professional development is also necessary.
3. Frequent externally imposed deadlines: interruptions influence priorities; difficult to anticipate nature or volume of work with certainty beyond a few days; meeting of deadlines and coordination of unrelated activities are key to position; involves conflict-resolution or similar interactions involving emotional issues or stress on a regular basis.
4. Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, and handling objects with hands.
