The Department of Kinesiology at Mississippi State University is seeking to hire an Assistant/ Associate Professor in Sport Administration. A start date of January or August 2026 is possible

Salary Grade:  UC

For salary grade UC, these positions are "Unclassified" and salary ranges are determined by the hiring department.

Department Profile:

The Department of Kinesiology is housed within the College of Education and features numerous exceptional areas of study for graduate and undergraduate students. The department has over 20 faculty serving approximately 1,100 students. The department is just moved into a brand new 67,000 sq ft state of the art kinesiology facility, housing over 16,000 sq ft of research space in addition to four classrooms and offices.

Undergraduate students can choose one of six concentrations: Sport Administration, Clinical Exercise Physiology, Neuromechanics, Physical Activity and Coaching, Physical Education and Coaching, and Strength and Conditioning. Master's students can choose from one of four concentrations: Sport Administration, Sport Pedagogy, Disability Studies, and Exercise Physiology. Doctoral students have two concentrations to choose from: Sport Studies and Exercise Science.

The sport administration program boasts diverse course offerings including core sport administration courses, program electives, and three cognate options (business, communication, and foreign language). The program enrolls over 200 undergraduate students and over 25 master’s students on a yearly basis. The sport administration master’s program is the largest master’s concentration in the Department. Sport administration faculty also advise Ph.D. students in the Sport Studies concentration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This position will be responsible for teaching, research, and service focusing on the department’s sport administration programs and Ph.D. sport studies program.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Doctoral degree in Kinesiology, or related field, with a specialization in sport administration, sport management, or sport studies.
• ABD will be considered with completion required within 1 year of hiring date.
• Demonstrated potential to teach at the college level.
• Demonstrated potential to conduct research and engage in other scholarly and creative activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior undergraduate and graduate teaching experience. Experience with advising graduate theses and dissertations. An established line of research presentations and publications. Interest in and experience with supporting or expanding service opportunities in the Department, such as community outreach, study abroad, etc. Experience with online teaching, as well as course and program development.

All areas of research and teaching specialization in sport administration/management will be considered. Research interest or experience compatible with our new sport marketing/consumer behavior, fan analytics, or e-sport/virtual sport labs will be especially valued.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary department is desirable.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required.
