Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following examples are intended as illustrations only of the various types of duties assigned in positions allocated to this classification. 1. Trains, supervises, assigns, inspects work, and evaluates the job performance of the Irrigation Technician.
2. Performs irrigation repairs and maintenance activities in the absence of the Irrigation Technician.
3. Interviews, trains, supervises, assigns, and inspects work of student employees.
4. Participates in making necessary changes to any/all golf course features.
5. Plans maintenance projects in order to facilitate the daily up-keep of the golf course and surrounding grounds.
6. Monitors the course daily for the presence of turfgrass pests. Identifies diseases, weeds, and insects in order to recommend/select appropriate control measures.
7. Monitors work areas in order to assure accuracy of projects.
8. Determines irrigation, fertilization, and pesticide application rates.
9. Assists the Equipment Technician in monitoring golf course equipment for proper operation.
10. Oversees the calibration of all equipment used in the distribution of pesticides and soil amendments.
11. Communicates daily with the Pro Shop concerning course conditions.
12. Prepares research plots and collects related data.
13. Orders supplies for the golf course.
14. Assists in teaching the Golf Course Operations (AGN 4423/6423) Lab as well as other turfgrass related course work.
15. Conducts regularly scheduled staff safety meetings.
16. Assists the superintendent in record keeping and managing inventoried assets.
17. Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Three years of experience managing ultradwarf bermuda grass or ultradwarf bentgrass greens.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, Golf and Sports Turf Management, or related field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Must have working knowledge of golf course maintenance equipment.
2. Must have the ability to exercise tact and discretion when interacting with customers and the public, including reasonable standards of personal appearance.
3. Must have a working knowledge of irrigation control systems.
4. Must possess or be able to very quickly obtain a Category III Turf and Ornamental Pesticide Applicator's Certificate.
5. Valid Driver's License

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

1. Exposure to extremes in weather conditions.
2. Subject to hazards associated with hand and/or power tools, tractors, and related equipment.
3. Exposure to pesticides when determining application rates."
