Reporting to the Power Generation Plant/EMCS Manager, the Generation Plant Assistant Supervisor is responsible for the operations, testing, maintenance and servicing of the 26 MW Generation Turbine Plant. Additionally, the Generation Plant Assistant Supervisor is responsible for operations, testing, maintenance and repairs of the 1-Megawatt campus solar field and the campus building and emergency generators.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Responsible for the 26 MW Generation Turbine Plant operation and maintenance, testing and servicing.
2. Lead the operation, maintenance and repairs to the campus building and life safety generator systems.
3. Execute all operational tasks, maintenance and repairs to the campus 1-Megawatt solar field.
4. Responsible for generation control system and SCADA system. Must be able to recognize control alarms and resolve them in short periods.
5. Assist in installation, system start-up, commissioning, and testing generation plant as appropriate.
6. Adjust and troubleshoot electric grid paralleling switchgear associated with turbine generator plant.
7. Adjust and troubleshoot volume of gas feeds to generator turbines and ensures controlled air-cooled environment is maintained to turbine/generator compartments.
8. Complete minor and major repairs for the turbine generation plant.
9. Maintain oil levels on supplemental equipment servicing the generators.
10. Repairs, maintains, alters, installs, operates air delivery equipment, supports components, heating and ventilation units, including heating and cooling coils, pre-heaters, dampers, heat exchangers and associated control systems.
11. Inspects, installs, and repairs piping fixtures and equipment including hand valves, relief valves, pressure-reducing valves, lift pumps, vacuum pumps, circulating pumps, air compressors and expansion joints.
12. Works on traditional and computerized control systems.
13. Performs standby duties as assigned.
14. Works on water treatment for various types of closed and open systems.
15. Test equipment for leaks and make corrections where necessary.
16. Checks gauges and make inspections for preventative maintenance on plant equipment.
17. Recommends requisition materials and parts.
18. May guide and assist with training new hires or other special trade positions.
19. Installs and programs power generation system controls.
20. Troubleshoots controls as necessary.
21. Works with voltages from 12VDC – 13,800VAC
22. Performs related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility:
May be responsible for training, assisting or assigning tasks to others.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience: 6 years in Industrial Electrical, Power Plant Operations, Solar Field Operations, Emergency Generators

Substitutions:
Any equivalent combination of related experience and/or education approved by the Department of Human Resources Management.

Certification or Licensure Requirements:
Valid Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Training and experience in troubleshooting, maintenance and servicing of a Solar Turbine Titan 130 Generator is desirable. Specialized Training in Electric Generation Systems.
• Energy Management and Mechanical Systems Experience.
• Understanding of Controls such as Trane, Siemens and/or Johnson Controls.
• Working knowledge of modular power plant processes, specifically Solar Turbines Titan 130 Gas Turbine Generators.
• Working knowledge of control system operations, remote operations and SCADA system operations

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to read and interpret line drawings
• Ability to identify problems and determine appropriate action for repairs
• Knowledge of mechanical systems for implementation of appropriate repairs
• Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, equipment, occupational hazards, and safety precautions of the trade
• Thorough knowledge of applicable codes, rules, and regulations (local, state, and national).
• Developed supervisory skills.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

• Regularly involves lifting, bending or other physical exertion. Often exposed to one or more elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, etc.
• Frequently externally imposed deadlines; set and revised beyond one’s control; interruptions influence priorities; difficult to anticipate nature or volume of work with certainty beyond a few days; travel or irregular hours often anticipated; meeting deadlines and coordination of unrelated activities are key to position; may involve conflict-resolution or similar interactions involving emotional issues or stress on a regular basis.
• Job frequently requires standing, walking, reaching, climbing or balancing, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands and lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Job occasionally requires sitting, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting more than 100 pounds.
• Vision Requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically, ability to distinguish colors.
