The role
We are seeking someone with strong experience developing Random Instruction Sequence (RIS) tools to join our RIS engine team. The team focuses on improving our internal RIS tools and supporting the needs of the wider CPU verification team on our RISC-V products. We are building a software-first solution, and creating an environment where the output of the RIS tools can be measured independently from running on RTL, to enable fast development of new features and improvement of test coverage.
There are two areas where we the team needs strengthening:
- Execution on project – there are many requests from our CPU projects for architectural stimulus to verify specific behaviours. Supporting these teams with our RIS tools is our highest-priority activity, to ensure bugs are found and coverage is hit. This is an execution-focused role, working with the wider RIS team.
- Advanced feature development – our tools must move forwards at a faster rate than the demands of our project teams, and we require engineering effort to improve the tools and focus on future improvements far ahead of the time they are needed. This is a research and development focused role.

You'll have:
- An engineering/computer science/equivalent bachelor’s or master’s degree
- At least seven years of experience in the semiconductor industry
- Strong domain-specific knowledge and experience of developing and using Random Instruction Sequence tools
- Domain-specific knowledge of CPU IP verification, e.g. CPU microarchitecture considerations for verification, understanding of CPU design process, etc.
- Familiarity with modern Instruction Set Architectures (e.g. RISC-V, Arm, x86)
- Excellent coding, logical problem-solving and reasoning skills
- Experience writing software in Python
- Clear communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
- Experience developing in a Linux-based environment
You might also have:
- Domain-specific knowledge of RISC-V Instruction Set Architecture
- Experience debugging IP written in SystemVerilog
- Experience with Jenkins/Jenkinsfiles/Groovy and Continuous Integration
- Experience with git and good source code management practices
- Engagement with constructive feedback via code review
- Experience of project planning using Jira or similar software
- Knowledge of SQL or other relational databases
