The role

The research simulator is instrumental to IMG’s ability to innovate and fine tune new generations of industry leading GPU IP. PowerVR graphics processors enable a cutting-edge, power-efficient, and flexible solution for all forms of multimedia processing, including 3D and 2D graphics as well as high-performance GPU compute, all in the same unified engine. As a GPU Research Modelling Engineer, you will be working on challenging projects at the forefront of graphics hardware and driver innovation.

You will:

  • Work within a team of GPU engineers to model IMG’s current and future graphics hardware IP in C/C++. 
  • Liaise with teams of HW and SW architects and engineers to explore and improve new GPU technologies. 
  • Design and implement efficient simulation models, balancing accuracy and performance to provide reliable data quickly. 
  • Implement and model GPU features and drive them through to execution and provide subsequent support to HW and SW engineers.  
  • Analyse GPU workloads and performance. 
  • Improve performance on current and future HW  
  • Identify, debug, and fix complex technical problems across the GPU, as well as the driver and compiler. 
  • Collaborate with engineers and architects on multiple sites.

You'll have:

  • Experience of Computer Hardware Architecture and design 
  • Very strong C/C++ ability and software development of large code bases 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills along with attention to detail 
  • A BSc in a relevant field with industry experience, or MSc/PhD with emphasis on Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Computer Science 

You might also have:

  • Practical knowledge of graphics algorithms (rasterization or ray tracing)
  • Development-side experience with (preferably low level) graphics APIs
  • Compiler design experience 
  • Experience with RTL IP or SoC design
