Position Summary:

The Capital Projects Manager is responsible for building projects, renovations to buildings, infrastructure upgrades, mechanical or electrical projects or other Facilities Services projects as assigned. 

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Oversees design, permitting, construction and commissioning for assigned projects.
  • Manages project schedule.
  • Coordinate construction activities in order to minimize disruption of college operations.
  • Acts as liaison between campus constituents and the contractor to ensure project is completed per project requirements.
  • Reviews and prepares solicitations and contracts related to assigned projects.
  • Reviews and approves invoices and pay applications for assigned projects.
  • Verifies that contractors are insured per College requirements.
  • Verifies that projects are completed per College specification.
  • Provide project schedule and budget reports as directed.
  • Complete project commissioning activities.
  • Create and retain project records.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related work experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service skills and verbal/written skills.
  • Working knowledge of standard construction contracts (AIA) and different construction delivery methods i.e. Design Build, at risk contracts etc.
  • Working knowledge of construction means and methods.
  • Experience reading and applying construction drawings.
  • Working knowledge of building codes.
  • Working knowledge of construction safety practices.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of commercial/institutional building mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Coordinates with local building and code officials.
  • Ability to use common computer programs like Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word and AutoCad.
  • Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license and acceptable MVR.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or construction technology strongly preferred.
  • Florida General Contractors license is desirable.

Work Environment:

  • Ability to stand, kneel, bend, crawl, walk and climb a ladder or scaffolding and to inspect unimproved construction sites in all weather conditions.
  • May be required to work on high, precarious places utilizing proper safety equipment.
  • May be exposed to construction dust, fumes and noise. Ability to utilize proper safety equipment for these conditions at all times is required.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
  • Operate motor vehicles and golf carts safely.
  • May be required to work different shifts/evenings or Holidays to complete projects.
