Position Summary

The Office of the Provost is seeking a Communications Coordinator to assist with the implementation of internal communication needs related to office initiatives and key academic and administrative units including the Student Information System (SIS), the Center for Teaching and Learning Innovation, the Ethics Institute, Undergraduate Education, and Faculty and Academic Staff Affairs among others. This position will primarily focus on executing internal engagement strategies for our audiences, developing/writing/editing content for distribution through a variety of communication channels, drafting social media materials, updating websites via a content management system, and supporting the team to implement strategic communication planning.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Collaborates with team members to implement strategic communication strategies and tactics related to key initiatives and priorities of the Office of the Provost, with a priority focus on SIS operations

  • Develops content in the form of "one-sheeters", fact sheets, emails, digital newsletters, presentations, talking points in support of end-user education  

  • Composes, reviews, edits, produces, and duplicates audio, visual, video, and/or printed program materials in support of end-user education 

  • Reviews and/or edits layouts, drafts, and information in order to check for content, readability, and style 

  • Engages with external audiences in electronic formats 

  • Works on the development and implementation of various communication needs within the Office of the Provost, which can include the items listed above, in addition to: 

  • Researches materials, interviews individuals, and collects information in order to compose articles, press releases, promotional pieces, reports, or catalogs in print or electronic media 

  • Assists with web page design, maintenance, and content management, using a content management system 

  • Monitors various publications and electronic sources of news and commentary for potential relevance to change management and end-user education activities 

  • Assist in planning meetings on- and off-campus

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Communications, Telecommunications, Journalism, Marketing, or Public Relations; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in internal communications; news, broadcasting, and print media, and/or marketing, advertising, and creative services; graphic design; word processing; desktop publishing; web design; presentation software; spreadsheet and/or database software; public presentation; or radio production; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in journalism, English, communications, or a related field; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience marketing communications; knowledge of design and printing techniques; word processing, desktop publishing, database, spreadsheet, and presentation software; experience with content management systems for website design, maintenance, and communication; proficiency in editing in AP style; proficiency with standard industry software, such as Microsoft Word; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Two to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in marketing communications.  
  • Demonstrated experience and excellence in writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, especially related to marketing communications.
  • Effective organizational, time management, and project management skills. 
  • Application and demonstration of strong editorial judgment. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills with individuals and groups in diverse settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet multiple deadlines.
