Position Summary

The College of Human Medicine is seeking a Data Resource Analyst (DRA) to focus specifically on research data analytics. The individual in this position will be a member of an embedded data analytics team working closely and collaboratively with academic program leaders and staff throughout the college. The position will be responsible for gathering, analyzing, and presenting data in multiple areas across the college. The DRA will work with other team members to utilize existing university reporting analytical tools, while also researching and developing new toolsets to help move the college to the next level in analytical reporting. Position will also work closely with team members in the Research Office, Health College Research Services, and the Business Office, on research related metrics to better understand and identify the activities and achievements of the research mission, while aiding in predictive analytics to improve faculty performance in scholarship.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one or two years of post-bachelor degree work, such as a Master's in Educational Administration, Statistics, Economics or Research Methodology; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in research design, statistical methods and knowledge of computer hardware and software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Desired Qualifications

Adept at working collaboratively and building rapport with a diverse population of faculty, and staff; familiarity with MSU policies and procedures; effective organizational skills; ability to work and prioritize work in a changing environment; demonstrated commitment to MSU's core institutional values, including strengthening a climate of respect, caring, diversity, equity, and inclusion; commitment to teamwork; problem solving; excellent judgment; ability to work on several projects simultaneously; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; experience with Microsoft Teams and Office 365, PowerBI, electronic dashboard construction, R or Python, API interfaces. Experience with PubMed, Google Scholar, NIH Reporter and other platforms that aggregate research data external to the university. Experience with Enterprise Business Systems (EBS) including Kuali, SAP, Planning Analytics, Cognos Analytics is desired.
The successful candidate will have strong technical, data, analytics, document management, and project management skills to lead, coordinate, implement and support data reporting and data visualization solutions. Ability to function well in a team environment and engage in the work of interdisciplinary teams as appropriate. Experience combining internal and external data sets to ensure data validity. SQL and spreadsheet software proficiency. Developing and running queries from various data sources and analyzing data. Experience with using reporting and data visualization tools. Demonstrated success in identifying and bridging business needs with technical solutions. A thorough understanding of analytics, data in higher education, and the need for research analytics data for unit leaders.
